What made you want to get into mixed martial arts?
“I started wrestling in high school and between seasons to stay in shape I joined a martial arts gym. It was a traditional gym that was transitioning into an MMA gym, and I fell in love with the submission grappling and striking aspects. And I never stopped training.”
Is there a fighter that influenced you the most to get into mixed martial arts?
“I saw Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock fight, and at the time they were feuding but by the end of the fight they gave each other respect and hugged it out. I thought to myself, This May be the greatest sport ever.”
How did you find out that you got the opportunity to fight on Dana White’s Contender Series?
“My agent sent me a text with the date and my opponent.”
How do you balance working and training?
“My work is actually completely based and managed around my training schedule. So the two never conflict. They are all separate worlds from each other.”
Are you still working or are you training full time now?
“I still work at Publix as usual and I still walk dogs like I normally do everyday. The only difference is I work one day less during the week and I don’t stock bread anymore lol.”

“No not at all, because that’s what I have dreamt of and worked for since I started fighting. It actually felt normal.”
What did you think of your opponent on the Contender Series?
“My opponent was a very tough and strong willed martial artists. It takes two as Dana put it, any lesser opponent and it might not have been enough to get the contract.”
Did you ever envision that you would be in the UFC this fast?
“I actually thought I would be in a lot sooner, because I don’t think 29 is really an early beginning in the UFC. But I made it, and will do the best I can with the time I have.”
Now that you are in the UFC, who are three potential match-ups that would excite you?
“To be honest, I haven’t given it much thought because my agent handles that. And before the fight I was thinking of names and he told to just get passed this fight first. So I did.”
How soon do you want to get back into the octagon?
“At the moment I am shooting for December. As you can imagine I needed some time to recover from a 15 minute stand up battle. Otherwise, I would have loved to fight on the upcoming Tampa card in October. Since it’s my home city.”
How would you describe your fighting style?
“I would describe it as flowy, I like to see where the fight takes me and play it by ear.”

“Rap (specifically ASAP Ferg, Drake, Meek Mill, Pusha T, Lil Wayne, etc.)”
Who is the first person you called when Dana White gave you the contract?
“My mom. Then my girlfriend.”
Other than MMA, what is another activity that you like to do?
“Play video games, work on cars, or just chill and watch movies or television series’s.”
